A season of thankfulness . . .

Now that all the trick or treatery and giving out of candy is done, we come upon a time of the fall season for a bit more thought and reflection. It is the time when we ask ourselves-what are we thankful for? Perhaps, thankfulness for you is in your health, your family, your loved ones, or a steady job. Or perhaps your thankfulness is for clean air and water. Or for the weekends. Or for music, art, travel, sport, adventure. Maybe thankfulness can even be in the most diminutive of things--birds chirping, a cool breeze, children laughing. We all have so many things to be thankful for that most of them go unnoticed on a day to day basis. The thing is, we are human, which means we are not perfect, and we are often only going through our lives by thinking in the moment and living in a self serving way. So, how can we try to live a life that shows more thankfulness for what we have? Can we maybe help a neighbor or a friend? Can we volunteer our time somewhere, or donate to a good cause we care about? Or, can we simply just be more kind to one another? Perhaps, this is the easiest way of all to start. To simply be more kind to others because of the blessings that we have ourselves. There are also other ways to show and teach about being thankful, many of them are through deeds of course, but some can also be through the form of the creative arts, which are especially fun ways to get younger children involved! If you did not carve your Halloween pumpkin, or if you have an extra one on your doorstep, you can get inspiration from this "gratitude pumpkin." Or, you might like this simple paper chain craft. There are many, MANY other easy and unique ideas out there to promote thankfulness--check some of these out, or come up with your own ideas. You will be thankful that you did!
