Coloring books--they're not just for kids anymore!

Perhaps you've heard about the adult coloring book trend in recent years? If coloring was your thing when you were young, then this is really good news for you because there is a whole new world of adult coloring books out there! And, if coloring was not your thing when you were young, you might want to give it a try now, as the art of coloring these days has greatly changed. Ranging from very easy to complex, and everything from meditative and relaxing to humorous and funny, you can find a style to your liking. The picture in this post features some of the books that I currently have and enjoy using. You need to know though, that “medium does matter”--meaning, colored pencils, gel pens, or markers are best to use if the coloring book has smaller details, as the tips are finer. And be aware, markers can bleed through the pages, so if you are using markers, you'll need to find books that are printed only on one side or have thick paper that is guaranteed to not bleed through. You can also use a sheet of card stock underneath the page you are working on as well. And, for those of you who prefer doodling over coloring, do not fear, because there is also something out there for you too!! Reverse coloring books, doodling books, and other books that feature unique and different ways to "color" are also a new trend, so you might want to check some of these out. If you live in the area and are interested in local fare, this State Street Coloring Book is filled with awesome artwork just waiting for some color to be added. The sketches are also great just black and white too! With so many options to choose from, picking which type of these books that might be best for you can be a bit overwhelming, so perhaps the best thing to do is take a trip to a local book or craft store, and browse through their selection to see what strikes your particular fancy! And then... get your coloring on!
