It's Hispanic Heritage Month!
Did you know that it will soon be National Hispanic Heritage Month? Annually observed in the United States from September 15-October 15, this special month recognizes all the contributions and influence that Hispanic culture has given to our nation's history and achievements. It begins mid-September because it coincides with the independence day of several Latin American countries. The celebration initially began in 1968, as a week long event started under President Lyndon Johnson, and was further expanded to a whole month by President Ronald Reagan on August 17, 1988. To help honor and celebrate this month, I have picked 5 of my personal top favorite Hispanic and Latino artists, along with an example of their art that you can view below. As stated on the flag in the painting above, Still Life, 1953, by Frida Kahlo, may we all try to have the same belief of Viva la Vida, or "long live life."
