More Sticks and Stones . . .

Welcome to Part 2 of the sticks and stones blog post! Last month, we learned about Rodolpho Liprandi, an artist who creates large animal sculptures from sticks. The blog post today will feature the other half of the phrase,"sticks and stones." Jon Foreman is a land artist who arranges unique and stunning compositions with found stones. Growing up by the Pembrokeshire coastline of Wales in the UK, he had a natural love and affinity to being outdoors and finding elements along the coast. To create his artworks, he uses colorful beach rocks, often in swirling forms, but also sometimes in rigid or squared off patterns. The scale of his creations can vary greatly, from small artworks that are less than a foot, to massive creations that are over 300 feet! He is best known for creating his art on the beach or by the water's edge, but he has also experimented with taking his art inland--using leaves or other natural elements found in the woods or forests. He believes that being and creating out in nature is a form of therapy, and helps him be able to take a break from the stressors of everyday life. Though his art is only temporary, lasting sometimes only for days or weeks, it is in the actual process of creating art that holds the most accomplishment and meaning for him.
